Beth Mickle grew up in Douglassville, PA, crafting short films with her brother, director Jim Mickle, before moving to New York to attend Columbia University. While in college, she continued working on her brother’s NYU short films, ultimately leading to her career as a production designer for film and television. One of her earliest collaborations was with directing duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden on “Half Nelson," which earned a Best Actor Academy Award nomination for Ryan Gosling.
